Box Tops Campaign Thank You!

3rd Grade Read-A-Thon Thank You!

A very special THANK YOU goes out to all of the volunteers who helped with the 3rd Grade Read-A-Thon last Friday!  The Tale of Despereaux came to life in Pocopson Elementary and brought tons of fun and excitement along with it! Thank You!

Kids with Heart Club collects leftover Halloween candy

The Pocopson Kids With Heart club is working with Stockings For Soldiers in Delaware to collect leftover/excess mini-candy bars and wrapped Halloween candy to be used to prepare stockings of holiday cheer.  The donated treats will be sent to our brave troops in harm's way to put a smile on their faces over the holidays.  Over the past 13 years, this project has sent almost 85,000 stockings to our dedicated troops.

To create an even bigger smile, you can write a letter of thanks and bring it with your candy to tell our military heroes how much you appreciate them.  Your note could mean the world to a lonely soldier far from home, and we will make sure they get it and your candy!!!
Kindly bring in all candy/notes to PES this week, November 6-10.  Please place all donations in the drop boxes in the main entrance to the school.  One box is marked candy, the other is marked cards.
Thank you, in advance, for supporting this worthwhile endeavor!

What Parents Need to Know About Teen Substance Use and Abuse

The FOCUS Parent Network Presents: What Parents Need to Know About Teen Substance Use and Abuse.  Is it “normal” for teenagers to binge drink? Are teens today taking the same risks teens took a generation ago? What substances are adolescents really using these days, and how will they affect their developing brains? How can parents effectively talk with their kids about this challenging topic? What initiatives are in place in UCF School District to help our children make healthy decisions about alcohol and drugs?

Please join us to discuss these questions and much more at our next FOCUS Parent Network meeting. This event will feature a panel of experts to answer your questions and open lines of communication between parents and school representatives on this critical issue in our community.

Date:  Tuesday November 14th

Time:  7-8:30pm

Location: CF Patton Middle School Auditorium

Each week, the PES PTO shares an idea for how our students, faculty, and families can be eco-wise. Does your student have a green tip they’d like to share? Email Nora Baughan: baughanx6@gmail.com for a chance to be featured in an upcoming PES PTO Around our School communication!  Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher.

Green Tip of the Week:

Load up your dishwasher. Don’t run your dishwasher until it’s completely full.  Skip pre-rinsing the dishes (today’s dishwasher are made to clean better).  Following these two simple steps can save up to 20 gallons of water.
