Kids with Heart Club collects donations for Cancer patients
In October, the PES Kids with Heart Club, a community service club, prepared 50 bags of Good for You Groceries which were taken by the Chester County Sheriff's Office to the Chester Family Academy and given to some very needy families.
In November, the kids will be preparing 45 Pamper Packets for Chester County Hospital Chemo Patients. As requested by Chester County Hospital, these packets will include the following items: re-usable water bottle, unflavored chapstick, eye/sleep mask, neck pillow, and roll of lifesavers.
If you would like to voluntarily offer support to this worthwhile endeavor, perhaps even as a little tribute in honor of someone you know who has been touched by cancer, please go to the following link on Amazon.com and make a selection:
Thanks from the Kids with Heart Club for any voluntary assistance you might give us.

Library & Discovery Zone Volunteers
Are you looking for a fun way to help out at school but have limited availability? If so, try volunteering in the PES library! Library volunteers help check books in and out, return books to the shelves, and assist in the Discovery Zone!
The Discovery Zone in our PES library is more popular than ever! We especially need parent volunteers to help in this area on Wednesdays from 12:15-1:15 and Fridays from 12-12:30! Our library staff will provide you with a quick training to get you up to speed.
The Discovery Zone is also in need of duct tape, packing tape, and cardboard roll donations! If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them off at the office. We thank you SO much!
What Parents Need to Know About Teen Substance Use and Abuse
The FOCUS Parent Network Presents: What Parents Need to Know About Teen Substance Use and Abuse. Is it “normal” for teenagers to binge drink? Are teens today taking the same risks teens took a generation ago? What substances are adolescents really using these days, and how will they affect their developing brains? How can parents effectively talk with their kids about this challenging topic? What initiatives are in place in UCF School District to help our children make healthy decisions about alcohol and drugs?
Please join us to discuss these questions and much more at our next FOCUS Parent Network meeting. This event will feature a panel of experts to answer your questions and open lines of communication between parents and school representatives on this critical issue in our community.
Each week, the PES PTO shares an idea for how our students, faculty, and families can be eco-wise. Does your student have a green tip they’d like to share? Email Nora Baughan: email@example.com for a chance to be featured in an upcoming PES PTO Around our School communication! Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher.
Green Tip of the Week:
Daylight savings time ends this Sunday, November 5th. As the days get darker, we turn the lights on earlier and leave them on more each day. Lighting accounts for about a quarter of all electricity consumed in the U.S. Regular incandescent light bulbs are inefficient, with 90% of their energy going to generate heat not light. Replace standard lamps with compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs. Over the life of one CFL, you can avoid replacing up to 13 incandescent bulbs and use 75% less energy.
*** If you want to add information to our Around Our School communications, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. For Community News, please watch for the UCF This Week emails. The Community Bulletin Board is also linked on our PES Home Page.
