3rd Grade Read-A-Thon:

This year, the 3rd Grade Read-A-Thon will be held on Friday, November 3rd.  This event is always a highlight of the year and we need your help! We are looking for a core group of people who will plan the evening, from decorations to activities. Meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings, with our next meeting tomorrow, September 12th from 7:30-9pm. We also welcome people willing to help on a specific task, even if you are unable to make the meetings. Please contact Renee Gushurst at if you can help!

STRIDE Coaches Needed:

The response to our STRIDE program has been overwhelming and we are in need of at least two coaches to work with the boys.  At this time we have several boys on our waitlist who will not have an opportunity to participate without coaches.

Volunteering is fun! We provide coach training, curriculum, supplies, and support all season to our volunteers!  No running experience required - just an enthusiasm for kids!

STRIDE is a physical-activity based, positive youth development programs for boys in grades 3-5. Life skills are taught through interactive lessons and motivating running games and culminate with a high energy 5K running event!  The primary goal of our programs is to build confidence and perseverance through running and to establish a lifetime appreciation of general health and fitness.

Our season begins next week.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Sue Holinsky at or 610-643-9622 ext 2138 as soon as possible.

Box Top Collection:

Clipping Box Tops earns our school free money!  We are having a class competition during the month of October.   The top class in each grade will earn a PJ & movie day.  The top 100 box top collectors will earn a cool piece of Spirit Wear!

Please carefully cut out the Box Tops, check expiration date and put in a baggie with your child’s name, teacher’s name and number of box tops.   Alternately, you can use the Clip Sheet in the Communications Packet.  Turn Box Tops in now until October 27th.

Giant Rewards:

Giant A+ Rewards program will be beginning soon.  Please go to Giant's website to register your bonus card and earn money for Pocopson Elementary. Every year Giant gives back over $1000 to PES because parents register their bonus card and designate Pocopson (#25843) as the recipient.  It does not affect gas reward points.  We typically have under 100 registered cards.  Imagine how much we could earn if every parent who shops at Giant registers his/her card.  It's free money for our school! See the Communications Packet for more information.

The Discovery Zone:

We had a great time during our year 1 of the Discovery Zone! We are getting more and more items to aid your children on their quest for creativity!

To keep the creativity going - we are always in need of donations of “consumables”, that is items that once used, cannot be used again. The following is a partial list - but if you want to send something not listed, PLEASE DO!

Embroidery Floss

toilet and paper towel cores

packing tape

Plastic grocery store bags

Paper bags

Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)

Leftover PVC pipe

Packing materials

Making items from Duct tape is an ABSOLUTE favorite project, so we run out very quickly.  Any donations of Duct Tape are GREATLY appreciated. Also - any “craft scraps” - paper, ribbon, washi tape, stamps, etc.

If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office.  We thank you SO much.
