News: In Our Building

1.  PES Spirit Wear Store

At the request of some parents, the PES Spirit Wear store will re-open and will remain open until Wednesday, April 26.  There are some new and fun items, as well as some of the customer favorites from the first campaign.  Take a look at the new "U" t-shirt which lists all UCFSD schools inside a large "U".  All items will be delivered the second week of May.  Please refer to the sizing information listed for each item.  Samples are available for preview at PES in the main hallway/lobby.  Order and pay on-line from the comfort of your own home!!!  Show your school spirit and order now.  Thanks for supporting this additional campaign.

2.  Save the Date: Art & Garden is April 29th! 

Fun run at 10:30. Activities, food, vendor tables and auction open at 11:00. Festivities end at 3:00. Art & Garden is currently accepting silent auction donations

Thank you to everyone that has signed up so far! We still have a few volunteer opportunities available for Art & Garden on Saturday, April 29th. We are specifically looking for a few folks that are certified to act as our on-site medical assistance, as well as 5th Grade students to help in the Games area. All students will receive a voucher for pizza, drink, and a cupcake!

Craft and Vendor Tables:  Showcase your home-based business or your creative side by renting a vendor table.  Vendor tables rent for $75 each, UCFSD student rate is $15 and PES students are free.  Check the website to reserve today.  Space limited and is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis

Plants: Please consider pre-ordering your garden plants from us. We get beautiful quality flowers from our grower, plus your order benefits our school! Please find the plant order form at the link below. It's due back by Friday, April 21. Any questions, email

Fun Run:  The day kicks off with the annual Fun Run around the school grounds.  Registration is open.   You can register your child(ren)  online and send payment into school.  Check the website for information and to register your child for this fun event

3.  Greetings Pocopson Elementary Community:

Attention Runners / Walkers / Fun-Seekers / and Do-Gooders ...... On April 22, our school district will once again host the Annual Unionville Run for Our Sons Event.  Attached to this email are two informational Flyers (which will also be coming home via "backpack express").  The first is a letter from the Johnson Family and the second explains participation prize levels.


I am writing to promote this amazing event and to announce that Pocopson Elementary has our own Team!  Invite you to read Joanna Johnson's letter (attached) and check out our Team Website where you can either JOIN OUR TEAM as a Runner or Walker  OR you can SUPPORT OUR TEAM and the foundation with a donation....

5.  Pocopson night at the Wilmington Blue Rocks

Join us for Pocopson night at the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday June 9th @ 7:05 pm.  Bring your family and friends to the ballpark for an action packed game and enjoy the fun, family atmosphere of Blue Rocks baseball and it's a Fireworks Night!    

Show your PES PRIDE and support the Pocopson chorus when they perform on the field before the game.  


There is an exciting opportunity coming to PES this summer.  Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Markloff are running a series of summer STEM camps!  Sessions are running in both the mornings and the afternoons for one week in June and one in July.  Please see the link below to the google doc for registration forms and details.

9.  Science Explorers After-School Science Club at Pocopson Elementary for Grades 1-5:

The last club of the school year begins soon!! Science Club will meet on Tuesdays in the Science Lab at Pocopson after school from 3:30-4:30 and is available to students in grades 1-5. The last club topic of the school year, which begins on May 2nd, is 


Come join our scientific research team! Which potato chips are the crunchiest? Which cookies have the most chocolate chips? Which brand of popcorn pops best? Test these products and more as we use scientific methods to enter the world of quality control!

11. Yearbooks on Sale

12.  Calling all library and book lovers (or even if you don't love to read!).  The Pocopson Library is looking for volunteers. Come be a part of our team and see what goes on inside our amazing library! 13.  Discovery Zone in the PES Library: THANK YOU PARENTS, FOR ALL THE DONATIONS SO FAR.  WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED, SO KEEP THEM COMING!!!! The Discovery Zone is made possible by a very generous grant from the PTO.  With that grant, we were able to get start-up and non consumable materials such as, K'Nex, Legos, Keva Planks, Sphero and ozobot programming robots, etc.  Along with these materials, we have consumable products; the kind that once used, need to be thrown away, and we can always use donation of these type of products.  These products include:

  • String
  • Yarn
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cardboard
  • Toilet and paper towel cores
  • Packing tape
  • Plastic grocery store bags
  • Paper bags
  • Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)
  • Leftover PVC pipe
  • Packing materials
  • Recyclable plastic food containers (please wash!)
  • Gently used Legos 
  • Box lids
  • If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office. Also, if you have any building materials such as blocks, lincoln logs, etc. that you are getting rid of, we would love those too! We thank you SO much!
