News: In Our Building

1.  Art & Garden 2017

Art and Garden 2017 - our Saturday Spring Fun Day at school, offering entertainment for the whole family! Fun run, games, activities, demonstrations, concessions, craft & plant sales, and more!

Please consider this fun way of getting involved in your child's school! Plans for the annual PES Art & Garden are underway. Please join our team! This year the event will take place on Saturday, April 29th. We currently have committee roles open and welcome anyone looking to volunteer their skills and time. It's a great way to meet other parents, and support your kids' school! There are plenty of ways to get involved - in any small way or big area that interests you. If you're ready to join us, plan on attending our next meeting on Thursday, February 23rd, at 10 am in the cafeteria.

2.  Box Tops Collection:  Our February Box Top Collection has one week to go!  The class from each grade with the most box tops wins a pajama day and a movie.  Any class that collects 500 or more box tops will win a pajama day.  Please have all your box tops submitted by February 24th.  In October, we raised nearly $1,000 from box tops!

3.  Rocky Reading Challenge:

Parents, Once again we will be participating in the Wilmington Blue Rocks "Rocky Reading Challenge"!

Your child's official bookmark came home last week.

To participate you simply:

  1. Read the required books and record the titles on the bookmark.  
  2. Return the bookmark to your child's teacher on or before Monday, March 13th_.

(Please note: All of the PES bookmarks are due to the Blue Rocks by Wednesday, March 15th, so you will need to have the bookmarks to your classroom teacher by March 13th.)

4.  Next PTO Meeting:

Evening PTO meeting:  Our evening PTO meeting will be on March 9th at 7PM.  Dr. Sanville will be our guest speaker. We will also discuss next year's PTO plans, school activities and committees. Stay tuned for more information about babysitting available at PES during the meeting.

6. It's almost time for Donut Days!!!!  Wednesday, March 15th through Friday, March 17th.

What a great way to start the day! Children may invite a parent or favorite person to school for a morning treat. Coffee, milk, juice, apples and donuts will be served from 7:45AM – 8:45 AM in the cafeteria. No pre-registration required.  Please make every effort to come on your assigned day, as listed below, as we plan the amount of donuts to purchase accordingly.  After you enjoy a special treat, come browse our fabulous Book Fair in the gymnasium!

Calling All Volunteers!

Book Fair Volunteers Needed!  Any hour you could give of your time would be great!  Help your kids shop for books at the book fair.  We will also need lots of help for Set Up, Clean Up & Donut Days!  Please look at the Sign Up Genius link below to see if there is a time that works for you!

All For Books: Your child's class could win a S'mores/Pizza Camping Party

Any donation welcome!  Support our school library and charity!  For every dollar we collect for our school library for the "All For Books" Program, Scholastic Book Fair donates one book to charity.  Last year our school collected $1280.54 for the PES school library and Stonehurst's library plus Scholastic donated books to their own charities!  Donations can be made during the Book Fair at the "All For Books" Table.  The kids can drop their loose change directly into their class jar!  The class that has collected the most money by the end of the week will win a S'mores/Pizza Camping Party!

Teacher Wish Lists: Attention Parents & Students… Don't forget to look for the Teacher Wish List Table while shopping at the book fair.  This is a great opportunity to purchase a book for your child's classroom!

8.  Read Across America Day

Parents - Thursday, March 2 is Read Across America day.  The library will be having our second annual Seuss-stravaganza!  The children will visit stations based on Dr. Seuss books and participate in STEM activities.  We are in need of some materials and hope you can send some of these in by Friday, Feb 24.  Items needed:

Empty rinsed water bottles with lids

Cardboard tubes (big and small)

Coffee or pringles cans (must have lids.)

9. 4th Grade Ice Skating Party - Save the Date!

All 4th Graders are invited to a fun-filled afternoon with friends at IceLine in West Chester on Sunday, March 12th from 4-6pm! Please mark your calendars for this district-wide event and stay tuned for sign-ups in the next couple of weeks! Questions? - Contact Kelly Fleming at or Eileen Day at

10.  Spring Picture Day is Wednesday, March 1st!

MotoPhoto will be back again on March 1st for anyone who is interested in Spring pictures!  Order forms will go out to all students within the next two weeks. If you would like Spring pictures of your child, please fill out the order form and send it in with your student on March 1st. Pictures will only be taken of students with completed order forms between 9-10:30a.m. that morning! Please contact Kelly Fleming at with any questions. 

11.  Yearbooks: Yearbooks are on sale for $28. After March 1, the price will go to $35 per yearbook. The yearbooks will be available first come first serve only. Order your yearbook to reserve your copy today. Click on the link to order:

12.  Calling all library and book lovers (or even if you don't love to read!).  The Pocopson Library is looking for volunteers. Come be a part of our team and see what goes on inside our amazing library! Follow the link below to sign up for shifts.  Come help one day a month or more--whatever your schedule allows.

13.  Discovery Zone in the PES Library: THANK YOU PARENTS, FOR ALL THE DONATIONS SO FAR.  WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED, SO KEEP THEM COMING!!!! The Discovery Zone is made possible by a very generous grant from the PTO.  With that grant, we were able to get start-up and non consumable materials such as, K'Nex, Legos, Keva Planks, Sphero and ozobot programming robots, etc.  Along with these materials, we have consumable products; the kind that once used, need to be thrown away, and we can always use donation of these type of products.  These products include:

  • String
  • Yarn
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cardboard
  • Toilet and paper towel cores
  • Packing tape
  • Plastic grocery store bags
  • Paper bags
  • Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)
  • Leftover PVC pipe
  • Packing materials
  • Recyclable plastic food containers (please wash!)
  • Gently used Legos 
  • Box lids
  • If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office. Also, if you have any building materials such as blocks, lincoln logs, etc. that you are getting rid of, we would love those too! We thank you SO much!
