3.  Letter from Jimmy Conley, UHS Principal:

Hello all,

Please consider donating to our online silent auction to benefit the Johnson family.

Our friend and coworker, Joanna Johnson (a UHS teacher) has two sons, Henry and Eliot, who suffer from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative muscle disease that affects one in 3,500 boys. Duchenne is diagnosed in early childhood and slowly robs boys of their muscle function, until eventually they are confined to wheelchairs and have trouble performing simple tasks.   As you can imagine, as the boys get older, the Johnsons' medical costs continue to rise.

I have reached out to numerous partners in our community to help Joanna, her husband Paul and the boys to help defray some of their costs. Thankfully, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia 76ers donated amazing game day experiences and tickets to upcoming games next season. In addition, my friend, community member, and Phillies broadcaster, Ben Davis kindly donated a number of Phillies items to us. I am sharing the following link with you for you to consider making a bid on one of these fabulous items.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/uhsteachers

All funds from this auction will go directly to the Johnson family.  The auction ends Friday, April 28th and is open to anyone, so please feel free to pass this on to others in our community directly and through your social media networks.

Thank you, Jimmy

11.  Discovery Zone in the PES Library: THANK YOU PARENTS, FOR ALL THE DONATIONS SO FAR.  WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED, SO KEEP THEM COMING!!!! The Discovery Zone is made possible by a very generous grant from the PTO.  With that grant, we were able to get start-up and non consumable materials such as, K'Nex, Legos, Keva Planks, Sphero and ozobot programming robots, etc.  Along with these materials, we have consumable products; the kind that once used, need to be thrown away, and we can always use donation of these type of products.  These products include:

  • String
  • Yarn
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cardboard
  • Toilet and paper towel cores
  • Packing tape
  • Plastic grocery store bags
  • Paper bags
  • Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)
  • Leftover PVC pipe
  • Packing materials
  • Recyclable plastic food containers (please wash!)
  • Gently used Legos
  • Box lids
  • If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office. Also, if you have any building materials such as blocks, lincoln logs, etc. that you are getting rid of, we would love those too! We thank you SO much!
