Hello Pocopson Elementary School Families,

Please take a moment to review the Communications Packet, which is also found on our PES website.

News: In Our Building

1.  Community Service Projects for the Holidays

The Holidays are just around the corner and so are the Holiday Community Service Projects.  Over the next month the following Community Service Projects will be in full swing.

  1. Giving Tree – a way to make the holidays brighter for community members in need.  Choose a gift tag from the Giving Tree, purchase the gift and return it to the tree unwrapped and we will deliver it.  ALL Toys collected will go to the Kennett Area Community Service Christmas Baskets program and will be distributed locally the Saturday before Christmas.
  2. Hats, Socks & Mittens for our sister school, Stonehurst Hills Elementary.  Donate a hat, socks and mittens to be given to our friends at Stonehurst Hills. Each year we ask ALL students at Pocopson to purchase a set of mittens, a hat, and a pair of socks based on your child's size and gender. Please deliver them to your homeroom teacher by Friday December 9th. The 5th grade students will be wrapping them again this year.

2.  Monkey Fish Toys: Holiday shop at a great local toy store with a discount while earning money for our school! Monkey Fish Flyer

3.  Pocopson Elementary Winter Concerts: Pocopson's YouTube channel will be hosting a live-stream event during each concert performance. The concert recordings will also be available on our YouTube channel after each has completed.

4.  Pocopson Elementary Art News:  Mrs. Hage has created a twitter account and Facebook page for parent viewing. Parents can check out the twitter account "PocopsonArt" and Facebook page "PocopsonArt Hage" to get a daily peek into the art room and to see where opportunities present for volunteering. Thank you Mrs. Hage!

5.  Holiday Gift Shop 2016 - Soon enough, turkeys will turn into twinkle lights and trees, so it is time to get ready for the Holiday Gift Shop the week of 12/5-12/9.  Please see the schedule below for your child's class (flyers and envelopes to come home soon).  Items for sale range from $.25 to $10.00.  The idea of the gift shop is to give your child an opportunity to shop by themselves for family members.  Some kids choose to shop a lot and some not at all.  Older kids will shop by themselves, then assist their buddy class using all those good estimating skills.  If you have volunteered in the past, you know that there is a very sweet, sincere spirit that flows through that room as they make their choices.  It takes lots of volunteers to run this shop and we have slots of anywhere from an hour to three, so please sign up to help!   http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084ba5a72da75-holiday3  Any questions, contact Christy Pickar - cpickar31@comcast.net

11.  Discovery Zone in the PES Library: THANK YOU PARENTS, FOR ALL THE DONATIONS SO FAR.  WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED, SO KEEP THEM COMING!!!!

The library is up and running, and so is our maker space; the Discovery Zone.  The DZ is made possible by a very generous grant from the PTO.  With that grant, we were able to get start-up and non consumable materials such as, K'Nex, Legos, Keva Planks, Sphero and ozobot programming robots, etc.  Along with these materials, we have consumable products; the kind that once used, need to be thrown away, and we can always use donation of these type of products.  These products include:

  • String
  • Yarn
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cardboard
  • Toilet and paper towel cores
  • Packing tape
  • Plastic grocery store bags
  • Paper bags
  • Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)
  • Leftover PVC pipe
  • Packing materials
  • Recyclable plastic food containers (please wash!)
  • NEW - We are in desperate need of gently used Legos - if you have some to spare, we would really appreciate it.

If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office. Also, if you have any building materials such as blocks, lincoln logs, etc. that you are getting rid of, we would love those too! We thank you SO much!

11.  The PES library is up and running, and so is our maker space; the Discovery Zone.  The DZ is made possible by a very generous grant from the PTO.  With that grant, we were able to get start-up and non consumable materials such as, K'Nex, Legos, Keva Planks, Sphero and ozobot programming robots, etc.  Along with these materials, we have consumable products; the kind that once used, need to be thrown away, and we can always use donation of these type of products.  These products include:

  • String
  • Yarn
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cardboard
  • toilet and paper towel cores
  • packing tape
  • Plastic grocery store bags
  • Paper bags
  • Mint or candy tins (like Altoids)
  • Leftover PVC pipe
  • Packing materials
  • Recyclable plastic food containers (please wash!)

If you can provide any of these items, please send them in with your child or drop them at the office. Also, if you have any building materials such as blocks, lincoln logs, legos, etc. that you are getting rid of, we would love those too! We thank you SO much.  We are very excited to start designing and creating this year!!!!
