2.  Longwood Rotary Book Bag Project:  For the past ten years, the Longwood Rotary club (www.longwoodrotary.com) has provided free backpacks and school supplies to low-income children in the local community.  We believe that every child should start the school year with the supplies they need to be successful.   We provide age-appropriate supplies for each grade including: backpacks, pencils, paper, erasers, highlighters, folders, binders, glue, glue sticks, tissues, etc.

We have just launched a partnership with the Unionville Chadds Ford School District to increase the number of children we can support.  We are collecting used backpacks that your children may have outgrown or other backpacks you have that are no longer being used.  We will be placing bright blue donation bins in the lobbies of all the district schools.  We will also provide new white trash bags next to the bins for the last day of school when students will need something to bring home their work and other items.   These bins will also be available all summer long to collect donations.

Later this summer when you are shopping for 2016-2017 we ask you to consider buying additional suppliesthat are on sale.  Who can resist the "loss leader" specials for 5 and 10 cents!  Buy extra supplies and help less fortunate kids get off to a great start in school.

If you have any questions about this community service project please contact Jordan Gushurst at jordan@gushurst.com.  Thank you for your support!

3.  2016-2017 Committee Chair Sign Ups:  The PES PTO is still in need of volunteers for Art and Garden and to organize Spirit Wear for the 2016-2017 school year. News: Miscellaneous

1.  Kennett Run FUNDRUN 14 May 2016

The Kennett Consolidated School District and the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District have always been big participants of the Kennett Run.  With 10 schools amongst them, they represent an important and youthful pool of runners.  The FundRun allows us to thank the schools for their participation by giving back $5 for each student, staff or teacher registered to their specific school "team".  The school with the most participants from each District in the race will also win an additional prestigious prize.  Last year Bancroft Elementary won for KCSD while Patton Middle for UCFSD with 26 and 12 runners respectively.  I am sure that this year we can generate many more students, faculty and staff to proudly run for their school. Almost $1000 was returned to the two Districts in 2015. The FundRun participants can run the 1mile run/walk, 5K or 10K races. Presently we have runners as young as 4 doing the 1 Mile and three youngsters of 6 doing the 5K.  Remember to encourage your youngster or student to register for the race and make sure to click on their school team on the registration page.  All the information can be found at http://www.kennettrun.net/

Participants can select Pocopson Elementary School as their team when registering.

2.  UHS After Prom- Community Walk-Thru:

The Community Walk-Thru is May 14th from 6:30-8:30pm. Please come see the high school transformed for this signature event!

The After Prom Committee is excited to reveal this year's After Prom theme at Unionville High School. Like many years before, parents and volunteers have been hard at work transforming the high school!! It is their goal to keep the students and community safe after prom. This event offers students a memorable opportunity to join friends in a secure & fun environment while providing activities, food and surprises. The event takes place "After Prom" on May 14th from 11pm to 5am.

Once again, to entice students to attend, Scott Honda of West Chester, PA, is generously donating a used car to one lucky student that registers and attends the After Prom event… and what student would pass up the chance to win a free car?

To follow the excitement, check them out on Twitter at UHSAP2016 (@UHSAP2016) and Facebook at UHS- AFTER PROM 2016.

Remember, the Community Walk-Thru is May 14th from 6:30-8:30pm. Please come see the high school transformed for this signature event! Donations will be collected and are greatly appreciated!! If you are a Unionville HS parent and want to help, it's not too late. We still need volunteers for set up, to work the night of the event and take down decorations afterwards. Please go to our sign up genius link:

News: Miscellaneous

1.  CISV:  Looking for something fun and different for your kids to get involved with? Consider CISV!

CISV is a fun and exciting club for kids ages 10 and up, and it is unlike anything else that's out there! The group is focused on peace education, with a mission of bringing together kids from around the world to build friendships and develop cultural understanding. CISV uses engaging activities and games to teach important skills like communication, conflict resolution, and leadership.

CISV was founded in 1951 on the belief that peace is possible through friendship - and that a real difference can be made by starting with children.

In addition to monthly club meetings, CISV offers weekend camps and even international camps! Monthly meetings are open to all, and kids do not have to know anyone in the group to have a great time! Our next meeting is Thursday, May 5, and all kids 10+ are welcome! We meet from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria at Fugett Middle School, 500 Ellis Lane, West Chester, PA.  For more information or with questions, please email brandywine-recruitment@cisvusa.org or call Jean Bitner, Recruitment Chair, 610-701-0665.
