Around Our School 6/14/16

Hello Pocopson Elementary School families,

Please take a moment to review the Communications Packet, which is also found on our PES website.

Letter from the Penn Family to our PES Community:

Someone once said to me when asking my daughter's name, "Emily, the sweetest name.....everyone knows an Emily and loves an Emily" and how true I have come to find that statement!  Since March 31st, when Emily was diagnosed with Leukemia, my family has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support for her and our family.

There have been countless acts of kindness......meals, cards, gifts, fundraisers, hugs, prayers, 1,000 paper cranes, offers to help with daily routines, support for her sister, well-wishes, and especially those sweet notes, gifts, and pictures from all of the children!  It is hard to find a way to thank the numerous people who have reached out to us, so we would like everyone to know that it is all so appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Emily is doing well and is finishing school with the help of Miss GW and the robot - affectionately called the Em-bot at home, but she really can't wait to be back in September!  She can resume normal, fun Summer activities as long as she is up to it, so perhaps she'll see some of her friends this Summer.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and please continue to keep Emily in your thoughts and prayers.  Enjoy your Summer break!

Emily, Olivia, Rob and Rosanne Penn

3.  Longwood Rotary Book Bag Project:  For the past ten years, the Longwood Rotary club (www.longwoodrotary.com) has provided free backpacks and school supplies to low-income children in the local community.  We believe that every child should start the school year with the supplies they need to be successful.   We provide age-appropriate supplies for each grade including: backpacks, pencils, paper, erasers, highlighters, folders, binders, glue, glue sticks, tissues, etc.

We have just launched a partnership with the Unionville Chadds Ford School District to increase the number of children we can support.  We are collecting used backpacks that your children may have outgrown or other backpacks you have that are no longer being used.  We will be placing bright blue donation bins in the lobbies of all the district schools.  We will also provide new white trash bags next to the bins for the last day of school when students will need something to bring home their work and other items.   These bins will also be available all summer long to collect donations.

Later this summer when you are shopping for 2016-2017 we ask you to consider buying additional suppliesthat are on sale.  Who can resist the "loss leader" specials for 5 and 10 cents!  Buy extra supplies and help less fortunate kids get off to a great start in school.

If you have any questions about this community service project please contact Jordan Gushurst at jordan@gushurst.com.  Thank you for your support!
