1.  ART & GARDEN 2016!  Save the date:  Saturday, April 30, 9:00-3:00

Save the date to join PES families at this anticipated, fun family event.  Fun Run, Concessions, Silent Auction, Entertainment, Kids' Game and Activities, Plant Sale, Craft Vendors, and more!  Visit www.pesartandgarden.org for information and highlights

  • Silent Auction:  Check out the auction page to see the listing of donors to our silent auction http://www.pesartandgarden.org/silent-auction.html .  If you, or if you know of a business that,  would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the silent auction, please complete donor form on website http://www.pesartandgarden.org/donors-wanted.html 
  • Craft and Vendor Tables:  Showcase your home-based business or your creative side by renting a vendor table.  Vendor tables rent for $75 each, UCFSD student rate is $15 and PES students are free.  Check the website to reserve today.  Space limited and is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis  http://www.pesartandgarden.org/artscrafts-vendors.html 
  • Entertainment:  Interactive entertainment includes ATA Martial Arts, Do' Cairde Irish Dancers, Wildcatz Cheer Squad, Tutu and You and Art Beat.  Schedule is on the website http://www.pesartandgarden.org/.  Tutu and You will host a make your own tutu class. Sign ups and payment will be at their vendor table the day of the event. ART BEAT will host an art class for 20 lucky winners.   • Fun Run:  The day kicks off with the annual Fun Run around the school grounds.  Registration is open.   You can register your child(ren)  online and send payment into school.  Check the website for information and to register your child for this fun event http://www.pesartandgarden.org/fun-run.html 
  • Plant Sale:  The greenhouse has started growing this year's beautiful selection of flowers.  Order forms are website.  New this year, 10% off all preorders.  Due by April 22.  http://www.pesartandgarden.org/plants.html
  • Volunteers Needed:  Whether it's helping set up on Friday, assisting the day of the event or lending your culinary skills for the cupcake table, the Art and Garden committee is seeking your help to make the day fun for all.  Please consider donating an hour or two of your time to help make this year's event successful.  http://www.pesartandgarden.org/volunteers.html 


2.  Emily's Lemonade Stand:  The PTO has organized an "Emily's Lemonade Stand" to be held at Art and Garden on Saturday, April 30th from 9:00-3:00.  Donations will be accepted for cups of lemonade, the money will benefit the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in honor of Emily Penn.  Please come out and enjoy a cup of lemonade during our Art & Garden celebration.  Can't make it to Art & Garden?  You may also donate through our school's Lemonade Stand page:  www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1224397. 3.  2016-2017 Committee Chair Sign Ups:  Please consider signing up to chair a PES PTO committee for the 2016-2017 school year. If you are currently chairing a committee and would like to continue next school year please submit form. A big thanks to all who chaired this year and to all those who volunteer for next year. Parent volunteers help make PES a great school!

We are still in need of help on the following committees:  Third Grade Read a Thon, Art and Garden, Square One Art, Curriculum Council representative, FOCUS representative, Spirit Wear, Green Thumbs and Wellness Committee representative. Descriptions and sign up form can be found below and in the communication packet. If these positions don't get filled we risk losing these programs for our students and families.

4.  Grandparent's Day Volunteer Still Needed: Grandparent's Day is Friday, May 6th. We are looking for a volunteer to drive the shuttle bus to transport grandparents from their parking spots to the front door of the school. If you're able to help out that day, please email danielledarmo@hotmail.com. Thanks!


5.  Pocopson Garden Club:  Roll up your sleeves and get ready to observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn in our garden. Come join us for weekly lesson plans that will engage students with real life experiences. We have 6 raised garden beds to plant, raise and harvest. Along with expanding our current butterfly garden. We meet every Wednesday after school until 5:00pm. Come join us this Wednesday, 4/20/16. If you have any questions please feel free to email or call.

6.  Pocopson Elementary Night at the Wilmington Blue Rocks:  Join us at Frawley Stadium for a fun filled night of Blue Rocks baseball.  Come out and support the Pocopson and Unionville chorus as they perform on the field before the game, Friday June 10th @ 7:00pm.  Don't miss the FIREWORKS display immediately following the game!

8.  Science Explorers After-School Science Club at Pocopson Elementary for Grades 1-5:

The next club of the school year is set to begin on May 3rd!!  Science Club will meet on Tuesdays in Pocopson Elementary's Science Lab after school from 3:30 to 4:30 and is available to students in 1st to 5th grade. The next club topic will be IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE? 

If you have ever wondered what is running through your veins and what happens to your lunch after you eat it, then join Science Explorers for five fun filled "office visits" that are guaranteed to kick your senses into high gear and stimulate your mind. We'll create edible blood, made a model of the digestive system, build a working lung model, and investigate a real sheep brain! Make no bones about it, the doctor is in!

9.  Your Library is looking for donations of the following:

  • thin cardboard (like food boxes) and also corrugated
  • PVC Pipe Pieces and Connectors (I'm sure you have them lying around!)
  • empty mint/candy times (like Altoids etc.)
  • old fashioned film canisters with lids
  • empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls
  • leftover yarn
  • any gently used wooden blocks or pieces of wood around that size

1.  "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" Event May 7th in Memory of Karlie Hall

In memory of Karlie Hall, a former UHS student and Rugby player who lost her life as a result of dating violence: "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event on May 7th is to raise money for the Laurel House. Questions, please see Darlene Brigance, UHS Teacher. For more information visit:

2.  Kennett Run FUNDRUN 14 May 2016

The Kennett Consolidated School District and the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District have always been big participants of the Kennett Run.  With 10 schools amongst them, they represent an important and youthful pool of runners.  The FundRun allows us to thank the schools for their participation by giving back $5 for each student, staff or teacher registered to their specific school "team".  The school with the most participants from each District in the race will also win an additional prestigious prize.  Last year Bancroft Elementary won for KCSD while Patton Middle for UCFSD with 26 and 12 runners respectively.  I am sure that this year we can generate many more students, faculty and staff to proudly run for their school. Almost $1000 was returned to the two Districts in 2015. The FundRun participants can run the 1mile run/walk, 5K or 10K races. Presently we have runners as young as 4 doing the 1 Mile and three youngsters of 6 doing the 5K.  Remember to encourage your youngster or student to register for the race and make sure to click on their school team on the registration page.  All the information can be found at http://www.kennettrun.net/

Participants can select Pocopson Elementary School as their team when registering.
