Pocopson Elementary School Families,

Please take a moment to review the Communications Packet, which is also found on our PES website.

News: In Our Building

1.  Hats, Mittens and Socks drive: Many thanks to those who have already donated.  We are still in need of hats and mittens.  We are continuing to collect, count and wrap this week.  Please help us reach our goal of a set of hats, mittens and socks for all 561 Stonehurst students.  Thank you.

2.  The Giving Tree: Thank you to everyone who supported our Giving Tree Community Service project.  You have made many community member's holidays brighter.  We appreciate your generosity.

Donations of toys and gift cards will be accepted through Thursday.

3.  Girls on the Run (GOTR) Food Drive

Pocopson students, families, and faculty,

Thank you for your generous support of our Girls on the Run food drive benefiting the Chester County Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack. Our drive was an amazing success receiving over 350 items. On Monday, December 7 I dropped off the donations and to say Chris was appreciative is an understatement. They have never had their storage shelves so full or a student led drive provide such quantities. Chris also shared that in the last few weeks the number of children they are providing weekend meals has increased, so our effort is very timely. Thank you for making the food drive such a success.

Hats & Mittens

Hello all,

Thanks so much to all who have contributed to our community service projects over the past month.  We are writing to let you know that at the end of the day Friday, our numbers are falling short of reaching our goal to provide a set of hats and mittens for each child at our sister school Stonehurst Elementary.  Although it is just a short drive away to Upper Darby, this school is very needy.  It's hard to believe, but there are many children at Stonehurst that have never experienced opening a present before.  Our goal is to have a present for all 561 students.

Stonehurst has a total of 285 boys and 276 girls.  As of the end of the day Friday, we have collected 203 sets for boys and 214 sets for girls.  As you head out this weekend to run errands and do some holiday shopping, please help us reach our goal.  We are still in need of 82 sets for boys and 62 sets for girls.  Note, many donations of packages of socks have already been collected, therefore we will be able to provide at least one pair of socks per child at this point.  We are most in need of sets of hats and mittens.

A few additional friendly reminders:

If you have chosen a tag from the giving tree at school, please return the unwrapped gift with the tag by this Tuesday, the 15th.  Also, if you'd like to contribute a toy to the toy drive, please do so as well.  Toys collected go to the Kennett Area Community Service Christmas Basket program, which serves over 600 pre-screened families within our community.

The UCFSD Coat Drive Committee has also let us know that their numbers are down as we approach the last week of their collection.  Their pickup date is this Thursday 12/17.  They are collecting gently used coats/jackets/hoodies of all sizes, infant to adult.  Please drop off any donations early this week in the lobby at PES.

Thank you for your generosity!

The Community Service Committee at PES
